There’s even a supermarket, open to midnight, inside
Schiphol Plaza. This is the main shopping
area and has a variety of outlets with the longest opening
hours in the Netherlands. Most are open between 07:00 and
22:00, every day. There’s also a wide range of eating
facilities, from table service erstaurants to bars and snackbars.
However, prices can be high.
There is a post office in lounge 2, and mobile telephone hire at the Telecom Rentcenter at Schiphol Plaza. Multiphone multimedia telephone units, which can be used for telephoning, Internet access and text messaging service, are situated throughout the airport. Wireless Internet is available in designated communication zone.
Schiphol Airport has numerous information
desks, where you can either get personal assistance or use
the inter-active information panels.
Schiplol is near the center of Amsterdam.
There are trains twenty-four hours a day from the airport
into the center, which take about fifteen to twenty minutes.
A single journey costs about €4 and trains stop directly
under the airport building. Taxis and busses drop you off
at the central square in front of Schiphol Plaza.. Taxis take
about twenty-five minutes, and many charge a fixed price of
about €40.
There’s also a regular bus service from Schiphol
to Amsterdam. Bus numbers 197 and 370 run to Amsterdam
city centre and Amsterdam Zuid. The short-term car parks are
connected to the terminal covered walkways. The long-term
car park is situated 4km away. A fully automated bus drives
you to the main building from the car park. Many hotels offer
a free airport shuttle service to guests.
