Amsterdam offers a wide choice of food and drink. There
are more than a thousand restaurants to choose from in Amsterdam,
most of them are in the city center. The Dutch eat early and
some restaurants close earlier than you might expect. As the
Dutch go out to eat as an activity in itself there is no rush
to get going. Pancakes are a typical Dutch fare, and tasty
and filling. Many bars offer inexpensive meals. Cafés
and bars are everywhere and both sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic
drinks, food and coffee.
Amsterdam has over fifty cinemas, where
films are shown in their original language, with Dutch subtitles.
Life music is easy to find, and there’s a wide variety
of theater. In Amsterdam, coffee shop means a place where
cannabis is openly sold and smoked. There are many different
types, some relaxed, others more lively.
Prostitution is legal in Holland, and in Amsterdam
most of it is concentrated in the Red Light District. The
Red Light District isn't very big. The easiest way in is on
Damstraat, beside the Krasnapolsky Hotel. There are windows
populated by women who tapon the windows as likely looking
customers pass. There are also peep-shows, bars, theaters
and specialised stores.
